Failure Causes And The Cases Analysis For The Main Parts Of The Marine Diesel Engine

The diesel engine is widely used in the ships propulsion device and the electric power facility because of its high thermal efficiency, easy maintenance management, works reliably and so on. Its reliable safe operation is very crucial to ensure the safety of the crew, the ships and the cargo. Specially the ship navigates in the sea far away from the land with less the technical support from the land. Disasterous accidents may occur once its power system failure or loss of power. therefore, it is particularly important to carry out diesel engine fault diagnosis.There is still not comprehensive and systematic study on the failure mechanisms, failure modes, influencing factors and management recommendations of marine diesel engine spare parts in international and domestic by far. And in-depth research on one hand is able to detect faults and treat effectively to prevent the spread of failure and deterioration; on the other hand, managers would be provided with management advice so as to operate diesel engines reliablely. In-depth discussion was done with wearing parts of marine diesel engine such as cylinder liner, cylinder head, piston and piston rings in this paper, and also the failure mechanisms and influencing factors with cases analysis were studied as well as the corresponding management recommendations were proposed, which would be better for managers reference if so.Firstly, the structural analysis and principles was done with the main wearing parts for marine diesel engine and based on which the mechanism of its failure was studied in deep and thorough. Secondly, the factors affecting the failure mechanism was analized for the different parts characteristics of in-deep to determine the most fault-prone classes.Finally, the typical failure was analized to the main components of marine diesel engine on combination with case studies meanwhile appropriate management recommendations were propoesd.
