The Study Of Products Design Based On FreeForm System

In the 21st century, Chinese economy is confronteding with the challenge of changing "Made in China" to "Created in China". The consumer market of products is differentiating from mass market towards niche market. The personalized needs become incraseaingly vital. Therefore, the competitions of products do not only rely on the quality of design, but also depends on the speed of design responding market. The products design based on FreeForm system caters to the trend.Based on searching relative documents, this paper discussed the sorting about the three-dimensional modeling technologies (TDMT) from different perspectives. Firstly, under the view of geometry modeling, TDMT is divided into three parts, that are Frame modeling, Surface modeling and Solid modeling. And then, it can be divided into "empty to exist" TDMT and "exist to exist" TDMT from the products design flow view. Thirdly, it is divided into visual perception TDMT and haptic perception TDMT from the computer interactivity view. The paper studied the elements of FreeForm system, which is consisted of virtual reality principle element and interactive element. It discussed the operation characteristics of the FreeForm system. This Paper considered the system has good modeling function, providing a simple way to model the complex surface of product appearance. The system meets the requirements of integrate design of industrial products and has the potential to achieve paperless design.Based on the previous studies, the paper expatiated the relationship between FreeForm system and products design, verified the feasibility of expressing effect, promoting design speed and optimizing iterative design in products deisgn. Firstly, It studied the product modeling design of FreeForm system which meet the cultural and aesthetic demands and the feasibility of its design plan. In addition, It focus on design process which iterated by FreeForm system, it is verified that FreeForm system has the abilities of speeding up design process, rapid responding requirements, reducing the loss of communication information between manufacture and design and coordinating team work. Finally, this paper demonstrated some types of design example to testify the products design based on FreeForm system has the above advantages and has a good perspective in Chinese economy circumstance which transforming society.
