Optical fiber acoustic emission sensor with the advantages of high sensitivity, wide bandwidth, and small bulk has wide application prospect. This paper describes the history of acoustic emission technology and its features. Acoustic emission mechanism, propagation characteristic of surface wave and the structures of some optical interferometers are introduced. The principle of detection and localization of ultrasonic wave using fiber Sagnac interferometer is given and the experimental system has been structured.Materials always send out the Acoustic Emission signal in their rupture, so it is very significative to detect and analyze the Acoustic Emission signal in our life. Different materials will have different Acoustic Emission signal because of the different physical appearances.In this paper, we design the experiment to detect the acoustic emission signals in the different ruptures of servaral materials. We try to find the characteristic of the acoustic emission signals in the rupture of same material. The constitution of fiber acoustic emission source location experimental system provided a new approach on health assessment and monitoring for the material structure.
