Concrete filled steel tube (CFST) columns combine the advantages of ductile steel frames with the high compressive strength of concrete effectively, and the steel tube not only acts as a longitudinal reinforcement but also provides lateral confinement, thus minimizing the use of steel cages, eliminating the formwork needed. Currently, the connection of CFST column to steel beam connections is prevalent in medium-high rise residential construction. However, the restricted factors for widespread application of CFST structure is mainly in joint detail scheme. In this paper, an innovative type of connection is proposed and studied. The connection details included crossing diaphragm welded to radius-cut reduced beam and then welded to steel tube columns, which makes the connection as a whole. Nonlinear analyses were carried out to simulate the Mechanical properties of CFST column to H-beam connections using ANSYSBy giving the model cyclic horizontal load, crossing diaphragm and RBS beam fit together well, they are beneficial to transfer the tensile force and shearing force of steel beam to the concrete core, providing enough tensile force to beam end, it improves the deformation of column. What's more, compared to the mechanics behavior of CFST column to H-beam connections with exterior diaphragm, the flexibility of CFST column to RBS beam connections with cross diaphragm increased dramatically, which improved the performance of the connections efficiently. The hysteretic curves are stable and the phenomenon of steel tube swell was improved sufficiently. Thus, this connection can be considered as the ideal seismic energy dissipating pattern. This paper considers 4 possible factors affecting the Mechanical properties of CFST column to H-beam connections. Analyzing ultimate strength and the stress in the welds, the optimal rang is proposed. Finally, some suggestions for improving joint design are presented. Besides, according to orthogonal design table, 9 joint samples are designed. Using numerical simulation, the main influencing factors of joint bearing capability and energy dissipation were found. In addition, the paper opens out the relation between every factor and joint bearing capability.
