Centrifugal pumps are widely used in refining and chemical, petrochemical, oil, electric power, metallurgical and other industries, and their running status can directly influence the production safety and environmental protection. In order to prevent the accident occurrence of the equipment, it is important to strengthen maintenance and management for centrifugal pumps. With the development of industry, it is necessary to be more rigid with the maintenance and inspection of equipment in the new era. As a branch of artificial intelligence, the expert system is increasingly being used in the field of industrial production in recent years, and has brought forth the one for the mechanical fault diagnosis, which has made some achievement while attracted the attention from both the circles of academics and engineering. Therefore it is a significant job to develop the expert system for the fault diagnosis of centrifugal pumps on the basis of the existing research achievement.In this paper, which is aiming at the characteristics of centrifugal pumps, there mainly are three jobs done as described below:Firstly, common faults of centrifugal pumps are summarized, and corresponding relationships between faults and their symptoms are found after the analysis of the mechanism.Secondly, according to the characteristics of fault signals of centrifugal pumps, a variety of feature extraction methods fit for centrifugal pumps are analyzed and summarized.In addition, an adaptive optimal filtering algorithm is proposed for the selection of carrier band in the process of envelope demodulation.Finally, on the basis of the above two jobs, logical rules for the fault diagnosis of centrifugal pumps are designed, matched with a variety of faults and symptoms and finally typed into the expert system. At last, the diagnosing effects of the expert system for centrifugal pumps are verified based on the actual fieldwork data.Research shows that the expert system can provide instructions for the fault diagnosis of centrifugal pumps, which bears great practical values in engineering.
