Regional Expression Of Architecture Under Hermeneutics

After entering the industrialization age, global exchanges become more frequent, which has not only brought high-speed development to our society, but also a serious impact on the local culture. The high integration of modern materials and technology manufactures the architecture, which gradually lose their identifiability and the heritage of local culture. To resist the monotony of the modern urban landscape brought by modernization, architects start to began to pay attention to the regional expression of architecture, and then protect the regional and national culture. Therefore, the research of regional expression of architecture will have the impotant signficance.Many experts and scholars have analied and studied deeply about that with the aid of typology, semiotics, phenomenology and so on, while, this thesis intends to introduce hermeneutics as a practical philosophy and analyze the regional expression of architectural through the hermeneutic perspective. Taking language as it's masterstroke, hermeneutics pays attention to the historical tradition and lays emphasize on the unification of understanding, interpretation and application. At first, this thesis reviewed the development of hermeneutics and fixed the common discourse space between hermeneutics and regional expression of architecture.Then, with a few hermeneutics viewpionts such as Horizontverschmelzung and Wirkungsgeschichte, the polysemia and hisrorical context of regional architecture have been analyzed through a series of cases. We studied the contradiction and complexity of architecture based on regional expression which took into account by the architects, and find out how the "understanding" works in a architecture design. Hope the research in this thesis can provide a new way of thinking and play a certain role in the regional expression of architecture.
