Sustained and rapid economic development accompanied by urbanization, which leads motorized transportation process speed-up, results in rapid growth in traffic demand. Consequently vehicles increase quickly, especially private cars. That puts enormous pressure on road traffic. Comprehensive urban major roads blocks during the peak hour. The level of public transport services raise slowly, travel efficiency reduces and travel time increases, bringing about the road network and long-term urban transport systems in high-load running. The vulnerability of the system is increasingly prominent. Visual simulation and traffic simulation as a representation tool for traffic get more and more widely used. However, the parameters of models need to be calibrated in order to provide meaningful results before any simulation study and evaluation of road network running.This paper firstly analyzes a large number of the research both domestic and overseas status on microscopic simulation model systematic parameter calibration, being based on the results of previous studies in summary, constructing the simulation platform for the traffic condition of Kunming, the procedure of parameter calibration and road network running evaluation system.Secondly, the paper conducted a microscopic traffic parameter calibration process, including simulation model construction, parameter selection, parameter calibration, evaluation and output analysis. In order to select the parameter for driver behavior model, the sensitivity analysis has been used. Then the parameter selection introduces the genetic algorithm to search for optimal combination of parameters to complete the driver model calibration. To ensure the accuracy of the model and reasonable, the OD estimation based on the route choice model has been introduced.Thirdly, the combination of microscopic traffic simulation model based on the characteristics, from the intersection-roads-the road network is established based on three levels of microscopic traffic simulation of the traffic simulation output evaluation system. The combination aims at effecting the evaluation of the implementation of different programs to provide a basis for quantitative evaluation.Finally, the procedure is demonstrated in a calibration study of Paramics models with Kunming Yi'eryi Street and the Xuefu Road area. The compared results from field data and simulated results demonstrate the effectiveness of the calibration procedure and evaluate the road network running condition by the evaluation system established above.
