With the rapid development of china economy, the needs for energy source, especially for petroleum, has increased by leaps and bounds. In order to mitigate the excessive dependence for imported oil and guarantee the safety supply of energy for our country, the development of deepwater oil reserves has become a strategic option for China. This program derives from great national "863" projects, and aimed at developing the experimental prototype of the Deepwater Bolted Pipe Flange Connection Tool (DBPFCT) with self-owned intellectual property rights and performing the connecting experiments in 10m water depth. This paper focused on the structure design of the magazines of the DBPFCT and research on its control system.The current research situation related to DBPFCT both in domestic and international is introduced. The working principles and structural characteristics of the existing equipments in abroad is analyzed emphatically, and analysis of its advantage and disadvantage is summarized to provide the technical references for this program.Based on the special Technique index requirements of the program, the overall design scheme of DBPFCT is proposed, in which the consist of the Connecting tool include Bolts magazine, Nuts magazine and Hydraulic tensioning tools magazine is determined. The form of the connecting bolt and its tensioning method is selected according to the overall scheme. Followed the Comparative Analyses of the design principles of pipeline, the pre-tight force needed for guarantee the tightness of the pipe is carried out. The connecting progress of the tool is planned also.Focus is placed on the detail design of the magazines'structure, the exposition of working principles of the holding-location mechanism, the nut screwing mechanism, the bolt tensioning modular and the turning-tensioning mechanism. After establishing the 3D structural model of the magazines, the finite element analysis on the static strength and stiffness of the key parts and components is carried out.In accordance with the practical demands of the Connecting Tool, the control system is designed, include the design of the hydraulic control loop and the design of the electric control system. Based on the nuts screw test, which is carried out with the Key-Principle Test Device, Analysis of Relative Factors on the screw of nut is done. The feasibility and reliability of the nut screw plan is validated. The hydraulic resistance of the motor and the mechanism friction of the nut sleeve are measured so that theirs bad influence on the rotation synchronous of the sleeves are restricted. Connecting test carried out by the DBPFCT on land is performed, and basing on the result of it,technology reference can be produced to the final connecting tests that carried out in the pool.Through the design of the experimental prototype, the foundation for the design of engineering prototype can be laid, and it also can provide technology support to the underwater pipeline connection.
