The reverse engineering is one of the methods to develop the digital product with which the development cycle can be reduced greatly and the product accuracy can be improved. It also is an important means to invent and develop all kinds of new production by digesting and absorbing the advanced technology.At present, the important research field of reverse engineering centers on two major aspects,one is the research of the reverse engineering's integrated system whose main content includes the integration of all the reverse engineering link and the development of the generic software.The other is the research of the critical technology of the reverse engineering, including data acquisition, data Registration (splicing), data preprocessing, surface reconstruction as well as three-dimensional model reconstruction and product processing. During the reverse engineering,Data acquisition is the premise and foundation; Data preprocessing is the key link whose result directly affects the quality of the final model reconstruction, and the solid model reconstruction is the final link. The research category of this article connecters on the data acquisition of the product, data registration, surface reconstruction, CAD model reconstruction and the processing of the follow-up products.First of all, in the present article, the theory and methods of the contact type measurement and non-contact measurement for data acquisition are studied and the point-cloud data of different products are acquired for expounding that the object of this study is scattered data point-cloud.Next, the critical technology of the data registration during the data preprocessing is analyzed and studied including the coordinate transforming between the global coordinate system and the local coordinate system; filtration and simplification of the scattered data and extraction and combination of the boundary characteristic.Then, based on the data processing,the technology of surface reconstruction is studied and the rapid surfacing methods, which is realized by the treatment of the gridded point-cloud and the foundation of polyhedral surface,is offered and satisfies the demands of CAD modeling system and rapid prototyping (RP) manufacturing system.At the same time, the solution of the CAD modeling reconstruction is proposed and moreover, the CAD modeling reconstruction work of regular and irregular model as well as free-form surface products is realized in the Geomgic and Solidwork system environment. At last, on the base of completion of surface reconstruction and CAD modeling reconstruction, the rapid prototyping method is adopted to manufacture and process the products and successfully finish the technology research and application of the entire reverse engineering link.In conclusion,based on the existing research experience, in the present article, the innovation point is proposed to realize the data registration technology; the ICP algorithm is used to finish the acquisition and the coordinate transformation is applied to combine lots of local data models to form a global data model which obtains a good result by the sample test.
