Distribution lines are important parts of electric power system.They have some features such as complicate construction, wide distribution, low insulation level, imperfection in technology management,operation and maintenance, so faults often happen to distribution lines.Distribution lines faults mainly include transient faults and permanent faults,and most of which are transient faults.So in distribution system, automatic reclosure is widely applied to reduce the possibility of blackout duing to reasons as transient faults and so on, strengthening power supply reliability. But traditional automatic reclosing can not distinguish the type of faults. They act blindly after faults happened, so they sometimes inevitably act in permanent faults, bringing more serious damage to stable operation of power system. When faults happen to distribution lines, in order not to act in permanent faults, it is essential to distinguish type of faults before automatic reclosing act.This paper carries analysis and comparison on all existing methods of distinguishing transient faults and permanent faults, develops an intellectualized diagnostic device which can distinguish type of faults accurately and efficiently combining with distribution lines'own features. When distribution lines trip, this device distinguishes type of faults by detecting insulation resistance and timely monitoring situation of insulation recovery, then decides whether supply power again.Basing on ideas of intellectualized diagnostic device applied to distribution lines, this design includes hardware design and software design. In hardware design, we give introduce to flow diagrams and function for line state sensors, control module, peripheral circuit and communication system etc. In software design, combining with software design flow chart, we raise implementation methods of data acquisition function, fault judging function, data communication function,fault concluding function and man-machine interaction function etc.Research shows that this device has features such as high reliability, strong anti-interference ability, embodies intellectualized merits. The device overcomes blind action of automatic reclosing, improves power supply reliability tremendously.
