Many external factors have an impact on soil seepage deformation because of the complexity and randomness of soil seepage deformation. Now, about the mechanism and effect that these factors influence soil seepage deformation, there is a big controversy. To the impact of external stress conditions on the soil infiltration properties, especially on the critical hydraulic gradient of soil, there is not the most appropriate theoretical guidance and research methods that can be accepted by all. Therefore, it is of great theoretical and practical significance that researching this subject and obtaining in-depth understanding with the way of test.By collecting and summarizing previous studies, developed a testing device, specific ratio of sand were studied and the experimental phenomena and results were detailed and summarized. According to the experimental data, the test phenomena that occur during the conduct are explained reasonably. Then applying the basic principles of finite element, I confirm the truth of critical hydraulic gradient on soil. Using the finite element analysis software GEO-SLOPE as a platform, a model of critical hydraulic soil seepage gradient was analyzed, and obtained some valuable results. The main jobs of this article include:(1) Collecting domestic and international information that are related to the soil seepage deformation, especially some important previous results and conclusions. In the section, the previous tests about the soil seepage deformation are analyzed and described. And the current research is reviewed.(2) Through the analysis of the internal structure of the soil, the basic concepts of soil seepage are described and the head of seepage, hydraulic gradient and seepage, other basic physical quantities are introduced. At the same time, the formula to solve the critical hydraulic gradient is introduced.(3)Describing the design of instrument, test programs, test step and sample preparation in detail. At the same time the phenomenon and the data were compiled and analyzed during the test.(4) Applying the GEO-SLOPE software, I analyzed and calculated a particular model of seepage field and obtain concrete results.
