With the development of the aviation industry of our country, aviation safety becomes very important.It is effective to improve the reliability of the flight spacecraft through of reducing the fire hazards. The working atmosphere of the aviation systems varies largely, for example, vibrating, temperature changes, and radiation will lead to the corrosion of surface current on the transmission line and the damage of the insulating barrier, which will cause the carbonization of the insulating barrier. These problems will induce fault arc, which can cause system fault and fire disaster, and it will threaten flight safety strongly. So, it is important to use reliable arc fault circuit interrupter in the aviation safety field. However, there is not impeccable arc fault database in our country, which is the main factor to confine the dependability of arc fault circuit interrupter.Firstly, the article analyses the burning mechanism of AC arc, and then use the theory to analysis the characteristic of AC arc. As Cassie dynamic arc model is suitable with the laboratory equipments, it is chosen to build the fault arc simulation model with the help of MATLAB/SIMULINK. On the one hand, in order to analysis the change law of the arc in different condition of the loads, the parameters and forms of the load changed in the arc model; on the other hand, in order to prove the veracity of the simulation model with the data come from the experiments, the load parameter which is suitable to the experimental facilities is set up to simulate.Secondly, combined with aviation static variable power, the electric arc triggering apparatus is designed and made up according to the standard of arc fault circuit interrupter to set up the fault arc testing platform. The fault arc experiment are carried out in different load condition, different characteristic of power supply condition, and different electrode material condition to collect the relevant parameter of fault arc. Besides, according to the different condition above, the voltage and current waveform characteristic of the fault arc are analyzed comparatively and contrasted with the voltage and current waveform characteristic of the arc come from the simulation. Then, the basic feature of the fault arc is easy to be known comprehensively.Lastly, in the experiment of the fault arc, a more effective way should be used to analysis and collect the characteristics of the fault arc. In the passage, the high-speed photography technology is used to view the fault arc can observe the combustion regime of the arc at each stage. In allusion to the pictures produced by the fault arc which is formed in different load, power supply, and electrode material condition, the fault arc characteristic are researched sufficiently, in order to build and consummate the data base of the fault arc.
