Open canal is one of the most important methods for draining away water in mine. The water trouble in mine can be decreased by using intelligent open canal flow sensor, and make workers know well about the real-time flowing data of the open canal and analyze the rate of flow in dynamic situations conveniently.In this paper, the object is determined as the shallow-wide rectangle open canal by means of analyzing the shape of drainage open canal, the roughness coefficient of the wall surface and the ratio of depth to width for many mines in Shandong Province. The Method of Effective Flow Area is selected, via analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the current methods of flow measurement. The formulas for the average flow rate and flow quantity of the rectangle section are established. Therein, the average flow rate of the section of the canal can be determined by two point method, which is acquired by means of data analysis. Besides, in order to obtain the measurement of flow quantity, three parameters are ascertained on the basis of the Method of Effective Flow Area, namely, the average flow rate of the section of the open canal, the liquid height of the open canal and the height of the silt level of the section. We ascertain the method of measuring the three parameters by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of every current method. Therefore, we obtain the main work of the design:The design of intelligent open canal flow sensor. The relation between intellect open canal flow sensor and the water inflow supervision system is analyzed. Additionally, the respective functions of the rest parts of the intelligent open canal flow sensor and the water inflow supervision system are ascertained.The multiple-pole plate capacitive sensor of the intelligent capacitive silt-boundary sensor and the capacitive switching array circuit are established in this paper. The feasibility of the capacitive silt-boundary sensor is analyzed, then a method on measuring the height of the boundary of silt is obtained. In addition, the circuit and software programs of intelligent water level-flow velocity sensor are designed, which is composed of ultrasonic liquid level indicating part and flow velocity measuring part. We also design the main components in the circuit and analyze the measuring accuracies of water level and flow velocity according to large numbers of experimental data. Moreover, the main program block diagram of the intelligent sensor and the block diagrams of measuring subprogram are presented.
