With the development of the micro-electronics technology and control theory, the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), with simple structure, but more energy-efficient, has been widely applied in servo system and received increasing attention. Research and design of PMSM is of great significance for energy conservation and green economy. in this paper, PMSM used as a traction motor in high-speed railway are studied in depth, the research work mainly includes the following aspects.Firstly, describe the application status and prospects of permanent magnet synchronous traction motor (PMSTM) in detail, based on design theory of PMSM, analysis and design of PMSTM with different structures has been done.Secondly, based on finite element analysis, research the electromagnetic properties and calculate some important parameters of PMSM using theoretical analysis and derivation, the simulation result by Maxwell provided the reference to optimal design.Thirdly, simulation model of control system is build with Matlab/Simulink, the waveforms of speed and torque are presented to study the starting characteristics. Using Co-simulation capabilities of Simplorer and Flux, research simulation platform for PMSM based on physical model.Finally, analyze mathematical model of PMSM, discuss the development of drive control system, including hardware and software.
