Train integrity monitoring is a key part of the train control system, which plays an important role on protection of railway safety. There are some limitations of checking the integrity by track circuit, column tail unit, axle counting equipment. Research on train integrity monitoring is of great theoretical and practical significance to meet the rapid development of railway.This paper gives the train integrity monitoring principle based on air pressure and GPS and analyzes its strengths, weaknesses and scope. The paper designs a train integrity monitoring system with GPS technology and GPRS communication on the basis of train tail device. The hardware and software design of vehicle equipment was well analyzed. Complete vehicle equipment design and development based on the idea of software and hardware co-design. In order to meet Railway site complex environment, focus on consideration on device selection and hardware anti-jamming design. Complete coordination and control of the hardware by reasonable division of the functional modules with embedded real time operating system.GPS assisted train integrity monitoring methods is critical to obtain accurate location information. The paper researched on map aided train integrity monitoring algorithm. Proposed a map-matching method Consider the status of trains Operation. On the foundation of GPS error models, used Kalman filtering, calculated train length by difference of mileage which removed the influence of train length calculation by rail line parameters. The integrity monitoring method had become more reliable.Based on the above theory and research, the system simulation testing and the actual experiment were adopted. The power consumption of vehicle equipment, GPS positioning accuracy and other parameters had been tested. Confirmed map assisted train integrity monitoring the effectiveness of the algorithm by GNSS simulators. The algorithm of train integrity monitoring was validated and evaluated. Function of vehicle equipment and integrity monitoring had already been tested in the outdoor environment. The paper provided test results and analyzed the alarm threshold settings.
