This paper is mainly concerning with an experiment about aggregates in the Xuchang area, a series of alkali-aggregate reaction tests has been done according to the ASTM C289 (Chemical method) and the ASTM C227 (Mortar bar method) and the JIS A1804 (Rapid test method). Using the results of this test, it could be a criteria to judge the aggregates potential reaction with alkali and a basis of concrete aggregates in Xuchang area.The results of ASTM C289 show that most aggregates from xuchang are deleterious or potentially deleterious, only the aggregates are innocuous from Yuzhou Xiaoqiaogou, Lanhe, Hongchang and Xiangxian Poliu. Furthermore in the ASTM C227 test, only the aggregates from a few parts of Yuzhou and all the parts of Linying are deleterious. The results of the JIS A1804 test are almost similar with the ASTM C289, but they are conflictive after comparing with the ASTM C227. The present results of this test show that the reduction ratio in the ultrasonic pulse velocity over 0.12% and the expansion ratio of the object over 13% are judged deleterious, others are innocuous. This norm is suitable for judging alkali-aggregate reaction in Xuchang area.
