In this paper, the dynamic changes and spatial distribution of vegetation cover in Qinghai Province are analyzed based on NOAA/AVHRR-NDVI data from 1982 to 2003 by using the average value method, simple differencing, Changes in the slope of fitted linear equation and principle analysis techniques.combined with grassland in Qinghai Province Map, Qinghai digital elevation model (Digital Elevation Model, DEM), of grassland in Qinghai Province NDVI change and its spatial distribution, the last use of TM data is better and degradation of grassland typical of areas severely conclusions verified the following conclusions:1)From 1982-2003 regional spatial distribution of Qinghai Province, The increasing area and decreasing area of NDVI coexist. there exist 4 NDVI decreasing area :①Yushu prefecture: the part of Nangqian county;②Guoluo prefecture: the part of Maduo and Banma county;③Hainan prefecture:on the south of Qinghai lake, on the border of Gonghe county, Xinghai county and Guinan county( namely LongYangxia reservoir area);④on the border of Guinan county, Zeku county and Tongde county .2)TM data using NOAA / AVHRR analysis results are verified, the results show that the degradation is not on the extent and spatial broadly similar, indicating use of the data analysis results using this method, although not achieve the accuracy of high resolution satellite data, but The results can explain nearly 20 years in Qinghai Grassland changes.
