In this paper, the growth characteristics of individual trees, enzyme activity, photosynthesis, water potential, shape anatomical structure of 4 year old poplar has been studied. The drought resistance of six clone poplar has been measured by comprehensive evaluation of the subordinate function. And on this basis, using grey relational analysis to get lerance indexes quality sorting of 15 projects of six poplar clones. The stem analytical methods used for studing the mature forest growth, development and updates for understanding the development characteristics of young tree and the differences between different species and the reasons for the growth of poplar, to provide the scientific basis for intensive cultivation,and revealing the law of poplar biomass for the rational use of resources, and building a better theoretical basis for farmland shelterbelts in shihezi 150 group.The experiment had been prformed in in Shihezi reclamation 150 Mosuowan regiment,from June 2009 to October 2010.This study shows that:1.The Populus height increment of Albag inaceae,Popul us xxiaozhuanica,Agelastica alni orienealis ealy,Hamamelis virginiana,Populus alba×P.berolinensis,P.euphratica was 245.93.207.4,170.68,173.9,223.8 and 276.34cm, and the Populus alba×P.berolinensis>Albag inaceae>P.euphratica>Populusxxiaozhuanica>Hamamelis virginiana> Agelastica alni orienealis ealy. The average and increment of annual DBH was 7.86,7.47.6.29,7.57,8.61 and 7.99cm;The basal diameter increment was 10.48,10.26,7.56,10.40,11.46 and 12.43cm, and the P.euphratica>Populus alba×P.berolinensis>Albag inaceae>Hamamelis virginiana>Populus xxiaozhuanica>Agelastica alni orienealis ealy.2. The day changes of photosynthetic rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance of six Populus species were very similar. And that of populus species showed a curve of double peaks.3. Average value of physiological characteristics of six populus species were obtain according to the values of 6-10 month. The SOD activity, POD activity, CAT activity, MDA activity, the content of proline of six populus species were 308.56-396.98 U.g-1,596-1196.75 U.g-1,185.5-455.5 Ug-1, 24.03-50.79 nmol and 17.06-35.49 ug.g-1,respectively. The subordinate function methods used for the five physiological characteristics for comprehensive evaluation and optimal drought resistance order:Albag inaceae>Populus alba×P.berolinensis>Hamamelis virginiana>Populus xxiaoz huanica> Agelastica alni orienealis ealy >P.euphratica.4.The subordinate function methods used for the 15 characteristics for comprehensive evaluation and optimal results.The drought resistance of p.euphratica is the best one followed by Populus alba×P.berolinensis and Hamamelis virginiana, and then Albag inaceae,Populusxxiaozhuanica, Agelastica alni orienealis ealy.5.The regression equation of height and DBH growth model of P.nigra var.thevestina, Ulmus pumila and P.euphratica farmland shelterbelt was significant statistical test (P<0.001).P.nigra var.thevestina height,and DBH growth model for the Richards model: H=30.14/[(1-1.0282e-0.033306*A)(1/-1.6117)],D=24.29/[1+3912.16e(-0.269025A)](1/1.4782)Ulmus pumila height,and DBH growth model for the Richards model: H=16.26/[1+0.0029e(-0.08749A)](1/0.00016),D=664.92/[1+0.010367e(-0.025024A)](1/0.001767)P.euphratica height,and DBH growth model for the Logistic model: H=10.44/[1+e(2.4879-0.408542A],D=19.33/[1+e(3.4397-0.44198A)]Comprehensively,it is discovered that Populus alba×P.berolinensis is not only have stress resistance and pole pass with straight but also is a good landscape tree species.Hamamelis virginiana is good economic yield species with high-speed and excellent material disposition. P.euphratica have excellent resistance and soil been improved,which is the local share. Albag inaceae is native trees and adaptable to the local. Farmland shelterbelt of P.nigra var.thevestina the initial protective mature age is 15 years, renewal age began 35 years. Ulmus pumila the initial protection mature age began 12 years, renewal age is 65 years.Farmland shelterbelt of p. euphratica initial protection age began seven years, renewal age began 12.5 years.
