Landscaping as the beautifier and regulator of inhabitable environment can not only clean air and regulate climate, but also satisfy aesthetic needs for people. The research of application and planning of landscape tree species can help to construct purposefully and designedly the urban landscape. Based on field investigation of the trees which can live through the winter in Xuzhou city without special careness including arbor, shrub, liane and bamboo etc. relative theory of landscape dendrology landscape ecology, conservation biology, urban planning and landscape aesthetics, the paper took tree species of green areas from established districts in Xuzhou city as subject to study on some existing problems of tree species application for greenspace system in this area. On the basis of the above studying, the author put forward the rules and schemes of tree species planning for landscaping and greening in Xuzhou city. The results show as follow:1.Totally 242 species of landscape trees belonging to 95 families were calculated in Xuzhou gardens Greenland. There were 29 species of evergreen arbors,30 species of evergreen shrubs, and 22 species lianes and bamboos. The result showed that the abundance of tree species was relatively low in this area. The ratio of evergreen species to deciduous species was 1:24, and the ratio of individual numbers was 1:4.72. Then the ratio of arbor species to shrub species was 1:0.62, and the ratio of individual numbers was 1:3.1. The result showed that the ration of individual numbers of evergreen species, natural growth shrubs and arbor species were too low. The phenomenon resulting in plant structure was not abundant enough, so that landscape appeared extremely monotonous.2.Xuzhou gardens greenland had 134 native tree species which was 57.2% of total tree species. Most native tree species were growing well and their individual indexes were higher than 0.7. The results showed that native tree species as main tree species should be the development of Xuzhou landscape gardening in future. Simultaneously, the author suggested that efforts will be continued to be made to tap the potential of native trees and increase their species and numbers.3.Some rules of tree species planning for landscaping and greening in Xuzhou city were put forward by investigation and analysis.4.The ratioes of tree species for landscaping and greening in this area were determined. Namely, the ratio of evergreen species to deciduous species was 1:3, the ratio of conifers to broadleaf trees was 1:6, the ratio of fast-growing trees to slow-growing trees was 1:2, the ratio of native tree species to exotic tree species was 7:3 or 8:2,the ratio of arbors to shrubs was determined trough different greenbelts, the ratio of park green land to residential green land was 1:4, green land of affiliated unit was 2:9, green land of the road was 1:4, and protective green land was 2:1.5.Some specific plans of prevailing, key and ordinary species of urban green trees in Xuzhou city were presented in the paper.
