The application and popularization of the internet technology changed the worldinto a global village, which make the breadth and speed of information sharing a bigstep forward. Against this major background of information age, agricultural industryhas also evolved into a complex business which require the accumulation andintegration of knowledge and information of diverse origins to obtain the maximumprofit. In order to keep competitive in this business, the modern farmers oftenintegrated agricultural experts' advice and latest information on the internet to provideinformation for their decision-making. To address the situation that weed causeserious harm while weeds information resources are scarce and weed specialists are inshort supply, the weed information consulting website is constructed. Because theweed information consulting website is a web-based weed expert system, and thuscombines the advantages of expert systems and internet technology, it can server anycomputer connecting the internet and then play an important role in speeding up theweed information promulgation, strengthening weed resource sharing, and decision-making for farmers.On the server side, the site, which uses SQL Server2008R2as weed knowledgebase and ASP.NET4.0as web application framework, has been developed using C#inVisual Studio2010Integrated Development Environment. The application of SQLServer database technology makes the development of dynamic flexible informationsystems become possible, because it allows efficient manipulation of large amounts ofdata, and facilitate information updates and maintenance. ASP.NET4.0is Microsoft'slatest ultimate technology for building website. In the course of building, this websitecomprehensively applies new features of ASP.NET such as MasterPage, auto databinding, and ASP.NET AJAX. ASP.NET include many practical built-in controls thatcan be used by WYSIWYG(What You See Is What You Get) way in Visual Studio'sintegrated development environment, which simplify the development effort andshorten the development cycle. In order to own diversity of weed information queryinterface, different types of data-bound controls such as DetailsView, GridView,FormView, ListView are selected and combined rationally.On the client side, to improve the interactivity of the web page, the popularcross-browser compatible JS script library jQuery is used. Moreover, a lot of CSSrules are used to further modify the appearance of the page to enhance the pagebeauty. The integration level of this weed expert system is very high, involving a widerange of information on weed. It gather many weed related information such as themethods of weed control, herbicides, weed terminology, weed bio-ecology, weedregulations, geographic distribution, etc. that are Categorized and organized intomodules, and therefore is a comprehensive weed information consulting system. Byintegrating individual modules into a system, the ability to solve complex problems ofweed expert system can be improved, because each module can complement eachother and then better play the advantage of weed expert system as a whole. Forenhancing farmers' understanding of the abstract and obscure terms of weed andimproving perceptual knowledge on weed identification parts, this site also providescolor photographs of some weed mature plants, flowers, fruits, seeds, which improvethe utility of the expert system and achieve a combination of database technologywith multimedia technology.The correct identification of weeds is the most important aspect of weed control,but also the weakest aspect. Therefore, a variety of traditional identification wayssuch as weed morphological features selection identification, weed categoryidentification, binary mode identification etc. are provided by the expert system inorder to achieve remote auxiliary weed identification. Binary mode identification,based on the the principle of the keys which is frequently used for speciesidentification, improve the retrieval efficiency and reduce the difficulty of retrievaland thus make operation more intuitive and more suitable for farmers.Expert system is an emerging field plant protection workers strive to exploit inrecent years, which has the advantages of bigger application value and stronganalytical skills. While maintaining the advantages of expert system, this weed expertsystem takes full computer network advantage of huge information capacity and fasterpropagation velocity. The whole system, with the advantage of complete function,flexible application and friendly interface, provide a convenient and fast query way toidentify and control weed for farmers and agriculture professionals of the forefront ofagricultural production.
