There is a long history of oil-tea camellia plantation in Hunan Province. The one of best production capacities and planting area of Hunan are in China. Qiyang County is the major area of oil-tea camellia production. Soil fertility quality plays a major role in the high-quality and high-yield of oil-tea camellia. Using out-door investigation, sampling, laboratory analysis, mathematical model and computer technology, the soil properties of oil-tea camellia were studied in low red earth hills of south Hunan province. Taking pH, organic matter, total N, P, K, available N, P, K, as assessment factors, soil fertility quality of oil-tea camellia was evaluated. The main results were as follows:1. The mean content of organic matter of sampling points was15.67g/kg and it ranged from2.7to30.18g/kg; the mean content total K, N and P were15.11g/kg,0.52g/kg and0.51g/kg respectively, and their variable range of content were7.95-17.15g/kg,0.1-0.85g/kg and0.32-0.67g/kg respectively. The mean content of available K, N and P were12.79mg/kg,81.80mg/kg and86.18mg/kg respectively, and their ranges were3.14-184.96mg/kg,24.03-110.39mg/kg and24.03-311.82mg/kg respectively. Based on the classification standard soil nutrients in the second soil investigation of china, the grade of total N, P was degree5th; that of organic matter, available N, P was4th level; that of available P was3rd level. In general, the nutrients of oil-tea camellia were low.2. The soil properties of different topography unit were studied. Because of little elevation, the differences of nutrient contents were not observed in different slopes.3. The soil fertility quality was conducted using comprehensive fuzzy judicial method. The results showed that the soil fertility quality of about60%of the sampling points was up to moderate and low level.4. The MDS of soil fertility quality of oil-tea camellia included organic matter, available K, available N, total K and available P in low red hill earth of south Hunan Province.
