Kyphoplasty Treatment Of Osteoporotic Vertebral Fractures With Local Anesthesia

PURPOSE Explore the therapeutic effect of the kyphoplasty treatment of osteoporotic vertebral fracture with local anesthesia.METHODS From January 2007 to December 2010,51 cases of osteoporotic vertebral fracture with 63 vertebral body were given the single side kyphoplasty treatment with local anesthesia. The data of vertebral height, the vertebral body kyphosis angle, the situation in patients with Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and activity score (ECOG) both pro-operation and post-operation was recorded.Then I analysed the therapeutic effect of this treatment after giving measurement and calculation to these data.RESULTS The total 51 operations were done successfully,8 cases occurred in patients undergoing paravertebral leakage of filling materials, and there was no neurological symptoms. After the surgery, all patients were given resistance to osteoporosis treatments,and follow-up 3 to 24 months, an average of 12.4 months, all patients were not neurological symptoms or other complications occur. The postoperative high of anterior, middle and posterior wall and the kyphosis angle 19.3±3.2,19.4±3.0,20.6±3.6,8.3±4.2,compared with the preoperative P<0.05. All patients with postoperative pain (24h) were significantly alleviate. Before surgery and 24h after surgery(51 patients) pain intensity (VAS score):8.02±0.55,2.52±0.58, compared with the preoperative P<0.05; Before surgery and 1 year after surgery (43 patients) VAS score:8.17±0.63,2.37±0.63, compared with the preoperative P<0.05. Before surgery and 24h after surgery(51 patients) activity score(ECOG):3.55±0.71,1.25±0.53, compared with the preoperative P<0.05; Before surgery and 1 year after surgery (43 patients) activity score (ECOG):3.62±0.55,1.63±0.61, compared with the preoperative P<0.05.CONCLUSION The method of kyphoplasty for osteoporotic fracture with local anesthesia is minor trauma, safe,and the pain relief results are obvious and fast.It can also give good recovery of vertebral height and reconstruction of spinal stability, so it improves the patients'quality of life obviously.
