Abstract/Summary:
Objective:To study the feasibility, safety and advantages of transumbilical single port access laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods:The documents of the patients who had been admitted into the Department of General Surgery Affiliated to Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, and undergone transumbilical single port access laparoscopic and conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the period of April 2009 to June 2010 were reviewed. The collected cases were divided into two groups:transumbilical single port access laparoscopic cholecystectomy group (group A) and conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy group (group B). Contrasts in their operating time, blood loss, hospitalization time after operation, complications rate, the total cost and operation cost were made by SPSS 17.0 software. Results:32 cases of transumbilical single port access laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery and 42 cases of conventional laparoscopic cholecystectomy fit for the requests of this study were collected. The operating time of group B is superior to group A (P<0.01). The blood loss of group A and B have no significant difference (P>0.05). No post-operative complications occurred in both groups and their hospitalization time has no significant difference (P>0.05). However, the total hospital cost of group A is higher to group B (P<0.05), and so is the operation cost (P<0.01). All cases of group A showed good cosmetic outcomes, which was much better than group B. Conclusions:Transumbilical single port access laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe and feasible operation. It has the advantages of smaller scar and superior cosmetic effect. Because of the operation of transumbilical single port access laparoscopic cholecystectomy is more difficult than the traditional one, its operating time is much longer and its surgical indications are more rigorous. With the development and improvement in surgical instruments, but with the improvement of surgical instruments and the accumulation of experience, operational improvements in technology, transumbilical single port laparoscopic cholecystectomy will demonstrate the superiority and be popularized.
