Objective:To observe whether the electro-acupuncture (EA) at LI11 and auneular concha can effect the glucose-sensing (GS) neurons in the lateralhypothalamic area(LHA) and ventromedial nucleus(VMN)of food-deprived rats and the characteristic of the effect. And then analysis the different effects between the two point to search the basis central mechanism for clinic treatment for simple obesity by EA.Method:Six groups were divided:normal group,food-deprived group,EAat L11 group,EA at auneular concha group and sibutramine group.Food were deprived for 24 hours to make the rats have hyperactive appetite except the normal group, and were given the respective intervention after spikes of GS neurons were recorded, while not any treatment to the normal group and food-deprived group. The frequencies were recorded and were analyzed by SPSS 16.0 software to observe the intervention effect on the GS in each group.Result:(1) The frequency of action potential of GI(glucose-inhibited) neurons in the hypothalamus in food-deprived group (8.37±4.11 Hz) is higher than the normal (5.58±3.20 Hz), while of GI(glucose-inhibited) neurons in food-deprived group (4.88±2.53Hz) is lower than the normal group (8.53±2.89Hz),and they both show statistically significant difference(P<0.05), which means that the characteristics of hyperactive appetite shows up in the food-deprived rats. There is no difierence among the four groups except the normal group about the frequency of action potential of GI neurons and GE neurons. (2) EA at LI11,auneular concha and sibutramine all can inhibited the activity of GI neurons, and showed statistically significant difference(P<0.05),but show no statistically significant difference about the effect on GE(P> 0.05).(3) EA at auneular concha and LI11 both can inhibite the activity of GI neurons, but the inhibitive effect on GI neurons of auneular concha is better than LI11, which means that there is difference effect contronling the appetite among the different acupoint of different part of body.Conclution:Food-deprived rats showed increased frequency of GI neurons, and reduced frequency of GE neurons, which makes them have hyperactive appetite. EA at auneular concha,LI11 and administration of a sibutramine can reduce the frequency of GI neurons to suppress the strong appetite, and show no statistically significant difference, but have no effect of GE neurons. So EA at auneular concha but not LI11 have the similar effect with sibutramine., which suggesting that different parts, different meridians of the acupuncture points have different effects on appetite, which maybe result of the different pathway and other factors.
