The Primary Exploration Of The Patriotic Health Campaign In Gansu Province In The 1950s

The Chinese government led the broad masses of the people to launch the gigantic patriotic health campaign in the 1950s. According to the instructions spirit of central government, and with the addition of the physical truth in Gansu province, Gansu provincial party committee and provincial government led the people in Gansu to launch the patriotic health campaign actively. It became an important component of the nationwide patriotic health campaign.This article is divided into three parts. The first part introduces the background of the patriotic health campaign, including the origin of patriotic health campaign, historical foundation and the sanitary condition in Gansu. The second part recommends the institutions'establishment and developing condition of the patriotic health campaign in Gansu in the 1950s. The institutions of Gansu patriotic health campaign were comprised by patriotic health campaign committee and other patriotic health institutions. Gansu patriotic health campaign experienced two development stages. The first stage of the campaign was from 1952 to 1955, for the purpose of doing well in environmental sanitation and personal hygiene, eradicating contagion and pests, and it was the initial developing stage. The second stage was from 1956 to 1959, for the purpose of eliminating the four pests, paying attention to hygiene, wiping out diseases and it was the climax stage of the campaign. The third part introduces the achievement,the experience and the existent problems of Gansu patriotic health campaign, and it is the key part of this article. The achievement of this campaign was mainly manifested in eradicating superstition, changing bad habits, reducing and eliminating diseases, increasing manure and production, and changing urban-rural health outlook. The main experience was that the leaders paid attention to and personal led it, and it fully launched and relied on the masses, and fostered the typical cases, and organized inspection and appraisal, and established and perfected the health system, and repeated examinations and so on. The problems mainly displayed in ignoring the objective law, lopsidedness, and existing formalism and blinding for quick phenomenon. The purpose of this article lies in affirming the effect of Gansu patriotic health campaign, and summarizes the experience and shortage, and it has an important referential meaning and directive function in the current development of Gansu health enterprise.
