Objective: To research the effect for constructing long-term stable passageway for food taking after artificial esophagus sloughed in different slipping time of artificial esophagus. To quest how long the artificial esophagus stayed in situ could form a long-term stable passageway for food taking after artificial esophagus sloughed.Methods: 6 pigs experiment mould were set up by surgery operation. They underwent a segment thoracic esophagus replacement with nitinol composite artificial esophagus. According to slipping time of artificial esophagus post-operation they were divided into three groups: the 3rd month group, the 4th month group, the 5th month group. There were 2 pigs each group. After operation, 6 pigs'weight change and eating condition were recorded. The shape of neo-esophagus and the diameter of neo-esophagus were observed by esophagography. Datas were analyzed statistically by percentage rate(%)and Student t test(t test).Results: There are no anastomotic leakage and thoracic infection. When the artificial esophagus stayed in situ , there are no feeding trouble. Once the artificial esophagus slipped, 6 pigs taken place different degree neo-esophageal stricture resulting in different degree dysphagia. In the 3rd month group, they had progressive neo-esophageal stenosis.(Ф<2 mm)and severe dysphagia(Bown'sⅢ-Ⅳ)after artificial esophagus slipped. Finally they dead of nutrition prostration. In the 4th month group, they had midrange neo-esophageal stenosis (Ф=8,9mm)and moderate degree dysphagia. (Bown'sⅠ-Ⅱ)After artificial esophagus slipped oral feeding was reintroduced with a semi-liquid to resume mixed pig solid feed. They survived in good health beyond 6 months postoperation.. In the 5th month group, they had slight neo-esophageal stenosis (Ф=8,10mm)and mild degree dysphagia(.Bown's 0-Ⅰ)they could eat solid diet after artificial esophagus slipped and still alive in good health beyond 6 months postoperation .Conclusion: After the replacement of thoracic esophagus with nitinol composite artificial esophagus, the artificial esophagus stayed in situ at least 4 months for constructing a long-term stable passageway for food taking in construction. To depend on this eating channel for food taking after artificial esophagus slipped, experimental animal can be alive for long.
