Objective:To study the treatment effect with Halo-Vest device in traumatic fractures and dislocations of upper cervical spine.Methods:In July 2006-July 2009 period, our hospital only using Halo-Vest Fixation on the rack 16 patients with cervical fractures and dislocations, prognosis follow-up, analyze Halo-Vest external fixator in the treatment of cervical spine injury.Results:All 16 patients were followed up from 2 to 24 months period, an average of 13 months. Halo-Vest fixed time frame 3 to 5 months, an average of 3.5 months. Normal fracture healing in patients taking a good frame, no further displacement occurs. The group of 16 patients with cervical spine injury patients,9 patients without SCI patients during follow-up no new neurological deficit.7 cases of patients with SCI, the spinal cord function score increased by an average one. Frame to take flexion and extension in patients after 3 months, lateral bending and rotation a good recovery. Were recorded on admission and follow-up, the average movement index, and paired t test, P<0.01, statistically significant difference.Conclusion:In the treatment of upper cervical fracture and dislocation, Halo-Vest cage effect is indeed, safe and convenient and effective treatment, especially in the long-term efficacy well worth promoting.
