Purpose: Inguinal hernia is a common surgery. As society into old age, the incidence rate increased even more, the application of tension-free herniarepair for a consistent anatomical structures and physiological functions, simple operation, less trauma, quicker recovery, relapse rate, etc., has been gradually replaced the traditional herniarepair as the preferred method of inguinal herniarepair. Hernia type and variety of surgical procedures for different types and operation methods, anesthesia varies and the choice of anesthesia is one of the key criteria of quality surgery. Anesthetic effect is done to ensure smooth operation, the anesthetic effect and safety is a major factor in the decision anesthesia 1. More traditional inguinal hernia repair with epidural anesthesia, but affected by many conditions, and there are more complications. Currently more than tension-free herniarepair using local anesthesia, its simple, quick recovery and fewer complications. In this paper, local anesthesia and epidural anesthesia in patients with tension-free hernia repair recovery after surgery, anesthesia, complications, postoperative pain, recurrence rate, hospitalization time and cost issues were analyzed and compared. Methods: A retrospective study the First Affiliated Hospital of Dalian Medical University from January 2005 to October 2010 inguinal hernia tension-free hernia repair 222 cases: 22 cases in which direct hernia, inguinal hernia, 200 cases were randomly divided into control study local anesthesia group and epidural anesthesia, surgical methods are applied patches with tension-free hernia repair, in which application of 3DP 183 cases of patients patch, application patch of PHS 31 patients, 5 cases of patch application of UPP, Application kugel patch in 2 cases, 1 case of patch application bard. Set out to see indicators (including heart and lung function in patients before surgery, with or without chronic cough, constipation, prostate enlargement and other underlying disease, operation time, ambulation time, eating time, hospitalization time, recovery time of daily living, wound complications, postoperative concurrent anesthesia disease, postoperative pain, recurrence rate, hospital and anesthesia satisfaction, etc.), record data, fill out questionnaires and were followed up.Results: The local anesthesia group and epidural anesthesia group in the operation time, the incidence of wound complications, recurrence rate, no significant difference in satisfaction with anesthesia (P> 0.05), not statistically significant. Local anesthesia group next to the time, eating time, anesthesia complications (urinary retention nausea and vomiting), hospital stay and hospital costs have the difference (P <0.05), with statistical significance .Conclusion:1 Compared with epidural anesthesia, local anesthesia with a tension-free hernia repair and rapid recovery, fewer complications, early pain, the advantages of low cost of hospitalization2 two anesthesia in operative time, long-term recovery and relapse rate without significantly different.3 choice of anesthesia according to the type of hernia, surgical, physical condition of patients to choose.
