ObjectiveBronchial asthma (asthma) is one of the common chronic respiratory diseases, which is a combination of cells (such as eosinophils, mast cells etal) and cellular components involved in the chronic airway inflammation disease.Such chronic inflammation leads to increased airway responsiveness. The main clinic manifestation includes recurrent breathing, chest tightness, cough and breath of wheezing that mainly appears in exoiratory phase. It is a common respiratory disease immunity, and belongs to type I or IV allergic reaction,so its pathologic mechanism is related to inflammatory reaction and allergic reaction. Recently, many researches about inflammatory mechanism of asthma have been well studied.Inlflammation causes carious inflammatory cytokines producing in humanbody. Inhaled glucocorticoids can inhibit a variety of inflammatory factors, including inflammatory cytokines, cellulartoxins, inflammatory enzymes, adhesion molecules and inflammatory mediator receotors. The long actingβ2 receptor agonist can obviously dilate bronchus and reduce airway resistence. Seretide(salmeterol and fluticasone propionate powder inhalation) has both effects of anti-inflammation and bronchial dilation. Two agents of Seretide are complementary on efficiacy,so it can be used to control asthma faster and more effectively.Cetirizine is a new generation H1 receptor antagonist, which has anti-inflammatory effects and can significantly improve asthma AHR to treat asthma. It has the characteristics of high specificity, the role of strong and almost no inhibition of central nervous system, compared to traditional histamine HI receptor antagonist. It can be long-term application. It through the observation in the comparison of therapeutic efficiency of Seretide plus Cetirizine and Seretide only in adults patients with chronic moderate asthma, which determine cetirizine in the treatment with Seretide asthma programs for the presence of superiority and Seretideo in its treatment of asthma whether in a synergistic effect.Method68 cases of adults with chronic moderate asthma were randomly divided into two groups, Joint group received oral cetirizine 10mg, qn, combined Seretide (salmeterol/fluticasone) 50ug/250ug inhalation, bid, only to Seretide group of the treatment of 12 weeks. There were strict restrictions on other drugs during treatment. We Observated before and after treatment in the treatment of clinical symptoms and lung function changes and side effects after treatment, monitor the following:the clinical symptom score in one week, every 2 weeks for a second pulmonary function observed forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (FEV1) and percentage of total estimated value of FEV1 improvement rate is calculated as FEV1 improvement rate= (after treatment FEV1-before treatment FEV1)/before treatment FEV1×100%, peak expiratory flow (PEF) accounts for the percentage of predicted value (PEF% Pred) changes in circumstances. Statistical methods were used to compare the differences within and among groups. Data analysis was performed using the SPSS10.0 statistical package programme.P<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. P<0.01 was considered as statistically significant difference.ResultsThe symptom score in the group plus cetirizine were significantly lower than that in the group without cetirizine (P<0.01), The forced expiratory volume in 1 second(FEV1) and PEF after treatment improved significantly in the both groups(P<0.01).The improved rate of FEV1 andFEV1% in the predicted value in the group plus cetirizine was significantly higher than that in the group without cetirizine at week 8 and 12 after treatment(P<0.05).ConclusionThe clinical improvement appears more rapidly in treatment by Seretide plus cetirizine than by Seretide only.
