| Objective: To investigate the cause and pathogenesis of melanosis coli as well as its relationship with age, sex, colorectal polypus and colorectal cancer.Methods: The clinical data of One hundred and fifty-eight patients with melanosis coli diagnosed by endoscopy examination from July 2007 to April 2011 was analyed on age, sex, history of constipation, Laxatives use , melanosis ,with polypus port or cancer retrospectively.Results: The detection rate of MC patients was 2.68%, The detection rate of MC in male patients was 0.93%, less than that of female patients(1.75%). The men's mean age was (65.87±11.301),older than women's(58.99±14.194).Female MC patients were younger than male and show a higher morbidity.The incidence of melanosis in patients of 60 years or elder was significantly higher than that of younger(P<0.05), Most of MC was involved in the whole large intestine. The incidence of melanosis in right hemicolon was less than left hemicolon.Conclusion:1.Melanosis coli is closely related with age and gender.The prevalence of melanosis coli in a population tends to increase with age. The detection rate of females is much higher than males. Female MC patients are younger than male.2. The detection rate of MC patients with polyps is higher than that of no-MC patients3.Melanosis coli seems to have corelationship with colon neoplasm.The reason is that colon polyps may been found and treated easly... |
