Now both developed and developing countries have shown great interests to traditional medicinal plants. With the development of folk traditional medicinal plants, they play an essential role in research and development of new drugs. Traditional medicinal plant resource is quite rich in China, the researchers would like to study them in China. In the present study, we used the approaches of field survey, literature study, key informant interview, semistructured interview, participatory rural appraisal (PRA), statistical analysis, phytochemistry methods (silica gel column chromatography, sephadex LH-20column chromatography and ODS column chromatography, etc.), spectroscopy technologies (UV, NMR, etc.) and mechanism, etc., to investigate the traditional medicinal plants, their chemical components, and bioactivities. Three species, Leonurus japonicus Houtt., Arisaema amurense Maxim, and Lycoris radiate Herb, had been focused in the present study. We elucidated the chemical structures of some compounds isolated from the target plants. The alkaloids isolated from Lycoris radiata have been tested against to Alzheimers disease and diabetes in model animals. All in all some results can be scientific cue for other studies on them.We have isolated20compounds from Leonurus japonicus Houtt., we applied UV,1H-NMR, etc. modern spectroscopy technologies, and Compared with paper's data and samples, then identified10compounds' chemical structures. We have isolated4compounds from Arisaema amurense Maxim.. UV, NMR and other technologies have been used to analyze the compounds'chemical structures, till now two compounds of them have clear chemical structures, other compounds'chemical structures is being evaluated. We also screened11alkaloids, which are all isolated from Lycoris radiata Herb., for anti-Alzheimer disease and anti-diabetes in Caenorhabditis elegans. In all the alkaloids tested, haemanthidine, galanthamine,1,2-Di-acetyllycorine and1-O-acetyllycorine present extremely better effects than memantine (one common drug for Alzheimer disease) for anti-Alzheimer disease. And3O-50μM/ml concentratrions of them got much better effects than10mM/ml memantine. So these results can supply some scientific ideas for future developing new drugs for Alzheimer disease, even we can find new drugs for Alzheimer disease. Besides, lycorine, hippeastrine and2-O-acetyl-lycorine have also to some extent effects to suppress Amyloid-?-induced toxicity. And the mechanisms of lycorine and hippeastrine are correlated to lower H2O2levels. Furthermore, the trasgenic C. elegans, CL4176, fed with compounds exhibited reduced formation of?-amyloid, in another way the reason that lycorine and hippeastrine can lessen Amyloid-? expression, in part, attribute to anti-oxidative activity. However Narciclasine has reversed the effects for Amyloid-?-induced toxicity, when narciclasine concentration reaches50μM/ml, Amyloid-?-induced paralysis will be increased in a high-speed. Therefore, we can make sense clearly the mechanism of Amyloid-B expression. Lycorine hydrochloride,(+)-haemanthamine and4-Hydroxy-phenylethylamine aren't tested some activities for Amyloid-?-induced toxicity. We also have RT-PCR analysis using of4screened alkaloid, haemanthidine, galanthamine,1,2-Di-acetyllycorine and1-O-acetyllyco-rine. The result is that these alkaloid effect to suppress Amyloid-?-induced toxicity have some connections with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors(AChEI). And these alkaloids have no toxicity to human intestinal wall cells growth and reproduction. So the screened alkaloids have potential value or can provide some scientific reference to new drugs for anti-Alzheimer disease and anti-diabetes.
