The advances of chalcones and coumarins with antitumour activities were reviewed briefly in this thesis. The present studies prove that chalcones and coumarins have antitumor activities, which opens a new field for antitumour drugs seeking, and intensive investigation on their structure-activity relationship might obtain novel valuable antitumour drugs.The aim of our study is to find new antitumor agents. Based on the typical structures of chalcones and coumarins having antitumor activities, a series of 3-benzoyl-2H-1-Benzopyran-2-one derivatives were designed, and the target compounds are synthesized through Claisen and Knoevenagel condensation. Eighteen compounds were obtained and 13 of them are not reported in the literatures, and the structures were characterized by ~1H-NMR and IR. Pharmacological evaluation is under going.
