Tao Yuanming is a shining star in the history ofChinese literature, who enjoys a high reputation in the field of Chinese and international poetry. As an outstanding literati, he had the same deep political complex like all the other Chinese feudal literati in ancient times. When he was a child, he was influenced by his family and the local study atmosphere. Besides, he was also deeply affected by the Confucian ideas, and he learnt from the unrest times. So he got the ambition to save all the people and make contributions to the world. To realize his dreams, Tao Yuanming had been floating and sinking in the official seas for thirteen years. At first, he served as libation in Jiangzhou. But after a short time, he came to realize that he must choose his grandfather Taokan's successful way if he wanted to reach his target at that time, that was, devoting himself into army. Therefore, Tao Yuanming quit his post as a libation in Jiangzhou and became an officer in Hengxuan's Commands. After that he took up the post as a brain man of Zhenjun, and then Jianwei. It's true that joining in arming is an important way for the poor to get a higher rank and make a career, however, the dark reality and the honest character made Tao Yuanming fail to accomplish his big aspirations. At last, after being country magistrate for more than eighty days in PengZe Xian, Tao Yuanming resigned from office and lived in seclusion so as to avoid trouble. Although Tao Yuanming lived in seclusion, his political dream did not fade away. It's only his body that lived in seclusion but not his ambitious mind. He wrote down all that was on his mind and created masses of well-known works. Some exclaimed that life was too short to achieve anything and some were concerned about the nation, caring about affairs of human life. Some praised that man with a noble character were supposed to be poor and some thought highly of the rural scenery. Some of his works were written in an implicative way while some were in a straight way. All expressed his haunting political complex. At last, he created an ideal place named"Tao Huayuan", thus finding a suitable home to his political ideal and making his political ideal known to all the people. Although"Tao HuaYuan"was an entirely imaginary that could never be found, it had its own social base, concept foundation and traditional origins. Throughout Tao Yuanming's life, we can see that his political complex accompanied him all the time no matter he became an official or lived in seclusion. All his life was a matter of choice related to his political ideals. Therefore, if we simply think he is just a hermit poet, we may despise him. Tao Yuanming's political ideals have its own representatives and cultural origins, which was a flowing stream in the Chinese feudal society, moistening the ambitions generation after generation. |
