Study On Shi Zhecun's Prose

In the history of modern Chinese literature, Shizhecun is a "style author"and a well-known scholar, whose accomplishment includes creation, translation, editing, and academic research. His works ranges from poetry, novels, essays and other genres, and his academic research includesforeign literature, classical Chinese literature, epigraphy and other fields. At the same time, he also witnessed the almost complete 20th century reconstruction and development of the academic literature.In terms of his literary creation, his novels are full of modernist atmosphere, which is influenced especially by the doctrine of Freud's psychological analysis, and it is so renowned in literary circles that it is called "the originator of modern Chinese literature." Apart from his novels, "the other side" of his literature accomplishment is his continuing prose writing. From the 1920s to 1990s, he had written more than 600 pieces of proses and essays. His value of arts, beauty and literacy were reflected from these essays. From the analysis of Shi Zhecun's 80 years'works, we have learned the creative writing style of his era, what is more, we can further understand the richness of the Chinese literature in the 20th century.This paper is based on a variety of prose by Shi Zhecun. By combing the style type, grasping the spirit of its temperament, analyzing the performance of the aesthetic content of his formation, and discussing his prose'multiple functions and cultural grace, a complete understanding of his prose is formed. In this paper, it shows the meaning of Shi Zhecun's prose which has been ignored by researchers, and demonstrates his literature world. There are various literature activities and literature theory of Shi Zhecun, which are also mentioned in this paper. Thus it constructs a broader and effective point of view for Shi Zhecun's novels, poetry theory and his influence to the modernism etc.This paper is divided into four chapters to analyze Shi Zhecun's prose from the following points of view:Chapter I:Shi Zhecun's prose style type. Shi Zhecun's prose has a characteristic of long period, large quantity and different situations. Therefore, this paper differentiates authors'main prose into four types according to the prose'content, style and different aesthetic orientation. A text analysis is carried out for the main works of each type, thus to generalize the characteristics of such type.Chapter II:the spirit of Shi Zhecun's prose. This paper analyses the overall style of Shi Zhecun's prose, including the writing style, the language features, and the writer's personality, in order to further understand his spirit. Three different prose spirits are analyzed, namely, firstly, femininity spirit; secondly, freedom of leisure and literary taste; thirdly, the wisdom and rebellion in the rigorous arguments.Chapter III:the aesthetic content of Shi Zhecun's prose. From the progress of Shi Zhecun's literature creation, he had formed his unique aesthetic tendency, which was shown from a large number of his prose. The formation of his aesthetic value is not only influenced by his own growing environment and personality, but also by the traditional Chinese culture, the classical literature and foreign literature. This paper analyzes the complicate influence to the writer and demonstrates his aesthetic content's formation and performance.Chapter IV: the cultural function and literary grace of Shi Zhecun's prose. Since Shi Zhecun is a writer, editor, teacher, translator and collector, and his literary activities include novels, prose, poetry, magazine, classical literature research, epigraphy research and foreign literature translation etc, thus his prose demonstrates a variety of cultural styles and plays a multiple cultural function. This is influenced not only by different cultural resources, but also by the intellectuals' cultural consciousness and spirits, thus the writer's far-reaching human consciousness and cultural ideals are highlighted.In short, by analyzing the diverse prose of Shi Zhecun, this paper is trying to get a more lively and full image of the writer, who represents not only just an individual writer in the literary history, but also might represents a unique ideal symbol in a literary era.
