| Mo Yan is a famous contemporary Chinese literary writer whose works have long-lasting effects. Mo Yan's novel " Frog" has attracted wide attention since published in the end of 2009.base on the context of new historical novel, close reading of the text and relevant research results, this paper attempts to make a comparative analysis on "Frog" between other new historical novels in order to explain why "Frog" is beyond other new historical novels. Mo Yan has been considered as a representative writer of the new historical novels, which once presented a splendid sight in Chinese literature and played a very significant role to break the unified ideas of history. However, the new historical novels went to decline due to the inherent big flaw. Therefore, the comparative analysis of the "Frog" with other new historical novels and the part of "Frog" that is beyond other new historical novels have a very positive reference to the creation of novels in the new periods.This article consists of five parts:The first part provides a brief overview of the development of Chinese literate history and the situations of traditional and revolutionary historical novels, as well as the background of emerging new historical novels. Also the general overview of Mo Yan's creation is included in this partThe second part is mainly an overview of the generation and characteristics of new historical fictions. It is mainly constituted by two sections:the first section is about the generation and the naming of new historical novel; the second refers to the summary of some features of new historical novel, including the marginalization of historical narrative, the removal of obstacles in the discourse right of the mainstream history, the fade-away of divine heroes, the history of spirit and of desire, and multi-dimensional perspective of narrative.The third part tells the new historical factors of the novel "Frog" that are found through the analysis of the text. This part is divided into three sections:the first is the fade-away of divine heroes to real people, the second is the individualized history memory, and the third is the removal of barriers in mainstream history.Part IV and Part V are the focuses of this article. The fourth part is the one in which the "Frog" is beyond other new historical novels. It includes the following elements:a comprehensive attitude of history, the concern of human nature under the enlightenment view, and the intense tune of practical criticism. The beyond part found out through the analysis of the text is the basis of the fifth part that compares "Frog" with other texts of new historical novels.The fifth part is the comparison of "Frog" with texts of other new historical novels. It includes the comparison of historical views and that of concern about human nature. Based on the fourth part, we see the characteristics of new historical novels in "Frog" through the two comparisons mentioned above. These comparisons have a significantly positive reference to the evaluation of new historical novels and the creation of historical novels in new periods. |
