Of Mice and Men, a realistic novel which is a true reproduction of the 30's miserable living conditions of western agriculture workers, takes a place in the American literary history since its sympathy for the bottom-class people whose dream has been broken and deep criticism towards the social reality. There is a highlightened "dramatic" tendency in Of Mice and Men, which is with the dramatic elements:dramatic action, dramatic conflict, and dramatic circumstance,etc. which work together to build the aesthetic effect that is the dramaticism refers to.Dramaticism is not unique to play, other literary types aslo need the nutrition of dramaticism. Dramatic element is the carrior and foundation to creat dramatic effect in Of Mice and Men. This thesis consists of five chapters, the introduction chapter describes the origins, significance, the analysis of the domestic and foreign research situations, research methods, content and objectives. In the second chapter, this thesis illustrates the theoretical connotation of dramaticism in detail and show the diversity of the content of dramaticism by discussing the dramaticism in the literary composition and the dramaticism on the stage. In the third chapter, this thesis analyzes the manifestation of the dramatic elements in the novel through the detailed reading of the text with the dramaticism theory. In the fourth chapter, this thesis analyzes the cause and impact of the dramatic elements in Of Mice and Men in order to provide readers with a interpreting perspective which is different from the past ones. In the fifth chapter, this thesis analyzes the unique significance of the dramatic novels, with studying of Mice and Men from the perspective of popular culture.
