Attentional bia and inhibition of return reflects both evolved human survival mechanism. These two phenomena are the focus of researching in the cognitive domain. Studying trait anxious college student inhibition of return effect with supra-liminal , sub-liminal emotional cues respectively aims to discuss trait anxious individuals'inhibition of return mechanism whether was can be modulated by the property of biologically important cues. The Trait Anxiety scale (STAI--T) of Spielberger was applied in the study. There are 40 participants were selected form 623 college students, in which 20 of High or Low Trait Anxiety group were included respectively. All participants completed cue-target task under supra-liminal and sub-liminal condition respectively. The study is within-subject and between-subject crossed three factors design. The material of experiments was happy, angry and neutral emotional pictures, which each has 30.Analyzing all the experiment data, the following results can be showed:(1) Under supra--liminal condition, the inhibition of return effect of high and low trait anxiety individuals was significant when positive (happy) and neutral facial expressions face were used as cues, but not angry facial expressions were used as cues. Likewise, the effects with happy and neutral face cues did not differ from each other, while both happy, and neutral face cues produced a greater magnitude of inhibition of return than angry face cues.(2) Under sub--liminal condition, the inhibition of return only occurred for neutral face cues, but not for happy and angry face cues.Based on the results of this study, we conclude the following:(1) Trait anxious individual'inhibition of return have difference with different conscious and different emotional cues, but not between high and low trait anxiety subjects.(2)Both under supra- and sub-liminal condition, all subject'inhibition of return can be modulated by the property of biologically important cues.
