Verbal-Imagery Cognitive Style To False Memory In The DRM Procedure Influence

False memory refers to the deviation between people's report about past events and what actually happened, or the phenomenon of people's memory about some events that never happened. False memory began with Bartlett's study in 1932 and put into use in practical fields such as judiciary and psychological consultation in 1970. By then, scholars have paid special attention to false memory. In 1995, American psychologists Roediger and McDermott established a laboratory to study DPM procedure of false memory and did a lot of study by making use of this procedure. In recent years, the influencing factors of cognition style have received people's attention.The existing research mostly is studied from the point of the whole-analysis dimension of the cognition style, and field-independence and field interdependence. However, there is very little study on the dimension of verbal-imagery. Zhanghong and other researchers (2009) used words lists and the picture as the experimental material to discuss the verbal-imagery' s influence upon the false memory. By using the different experimental material to make the deduction, the difference between verbal and imagery is under discussing. In order to avoid the explainable deviation caused by different experimental material, the same experiment material has been used.Testee can be divided into two groups as verbal style and imagery style according to the Cognitive Style Analysis (CSA). The study also discussed false memory's influences caused by gender factors, different cognition styles between verbal and imagery and people's memory preference about the heterogeneity words (abstract word and a substantive), Conclusions are as follow:1. Cognitive Style services as an essential influencing element for false memory. Verbal style testees who have higher false recognition rate than imagery style testees concerning critic lure are susceptible population for wrong memory. 2. Testees don't show magnificent differences about false recognition rate of critic lure when experimental material is composed by different nature of words lists. Cognitive style and the nature of words lists play interactive influences upon false recognition rate.3. In the process of causing false memory, word's activation includes not only semantic activation but also the process of imagery activation by schema.4. cognitive style and word list play a different influence upon the correct recognition rate of words have learned and the false recognition rate of critic lure.
