Baikov is a Russian expatriate writer. He spent most of his life in the northeast of China and had written many works, among which the novel "King" is regarded as his masterpiece. It reveals the ecological thoughts of Baikov and the understanding of the relationship between mankind and the nature. Since it is an early modern literature of ecology, with rich traditional ecological thoughts of China and Russia, the academic circle has very little concern of Baikov and the "King", thus no scholars have ever conducted systematically researches about the ecological thoughts of Baikov and the "King".The topic is a supplement of the missing East Asia expatriate literature of Russia, and also has a positive significance in the research of current ecological protection and ecological thoughts. The thesis focuses mainly on the plot, content and the underlying ecological thoughts of Baikov's "King", and researches on the factors and reasons why they are being formed. The novel demonstrates the process of changes from harmony to crisis as a result of over-development of mankind by the description of a wild male Manchurian tiger's life. In this process, animals, the masters of the virgin forest, turn into the prey of the human beings gradually, and lost their habitat at last. Because of the difference of interests and beliefs, mankind becomes an ecological protector or destroyer eventually. The fact that the later dominates indicates the destiny of the nature. Thanks to the expatriate identity and the experience of the author, the novel is a combination of Russian traditional thinking of the nature and the land with special feelings, but also the Chinese "Tiger" culture, the worship of Natural God, and the ecological thoughts of Buddhism and Confucianism, all of which constitute the elements of ecologic thoughts in "King", as a "harmonious" view of nature.Tracing it to its cause, the "harmonious" view of nature lies in the mutual altruism between mankind and the nature behind the harmony, with the balance of contradictory interests, which will lead to the mutual benefit and reciprocity. Both animals and mankind are altruistic. The extension of altruism is thus a seeking and protection means to the benefit of both the nature and mankind. This is also the advanced thought of Baikov's.
