Line is one of the most ancient drawing forms in depicting objects and human beings, which has become an important method in drawing art in the ancient times. Two thousand years ago, the Chinese drawing formed a style of expression by the line modeling that was full and expressive. When painting the objects, it is vital to request the lines to be a high degree of concentration, refinement and condensation. The interpretation of objects is the painting of satisfaction and artists'aesthetical feelings when utilizing the lines. The line in the Chinese landscape painting represents the theme by drawing shapes and requests the fluctuation of twists and turns, which is beyond realistic and also devoted by artists'efforts. Therefore, the line has the independent esthetic value. Moreover, taking the line as the research subject has the positive and the profound significance to the development of the contemporary Chinese landscape painting.This paper is based on the research on the features of lines in the early artistic works and the medium of lines--- brush, ink and paper in order to explore the characteristics of lines in the Chinese landscape painting; the evolution of lines in the Chinese traditional landscape painting and the shapes of lines in the Chinese contemporary landscape painting; the movements and the emotion of lines; and the texture and movements of lines, highlighted by manifesting the importance of lines. Also, by interpreting the lines, it is significant that landscape painters cannot sacrifice the artistic quality of lines just to pursue the particularity. They need to purify the spirits of brush and ink, which is the essential requirement of improving the Chinese landscape painting.
