| Writing level can comprehensively reflect the degree of mastering a foreign language. Therefore, writing is considered as one of the most significant content in English teaching. However, from the scores of CET-4 and CET-6 the writing score average ranks behind other types. This kind of situation causes the feared state of mind to the students and even they lose the confidence in writing. It is urgent for teachers to improve the college English writing situation.The author analyzes the advantages and disadvantages, respective characteristics and limitations of the product-oriented approach and process-oriented approach and then proposes to integrate the advantages of the two approaches in the way of combining the two approaches during the teaching process which is based on the substance and main features of the two approaches. Thus not only can we obtain the positive factors of process approach but can use the traditional approach appreciatively and reasonably. Thereby, we improve the writing ability and at the same time achieve the best teaching benefits. This study investigates and analyzes the influence of the combined approach—process-product approach on the students writing level under the experiment. Students who come from Jilin Agriculture University College of Resources and Environment and College of Agriculture participate in this 16 weeks experiment. Then author applies the combined approach into the experimental group during the writing teaching. The control group of students is supervised under the traditional way which is product-oriented approach. After a semester of writing teaching, the scores from both the three tests and CET-4 are collected and analyzed statistically by the author to get findings, which prove that process-product approach can help us not only assimilate the positive factors of the process-oriented approach but also appreciate and intelligently use the traditional product-oriented approach. Thereby college non-English major students are improved in their English writing competence. |
