A mother's love is a commonly recurring theme in the history of art, for examply, Raphael during the Renaissance, his series of the images of Mary as idealized in her warmth and youthful beauty, captures the spirit of humanism that marked the era.In particular, in the Sistine Chapel's《Madonna》paints the image of the holy Mother as the epitome of perfection of classicism.Towards the end of the 19th century and early 20th century, an outstanding American female artist– Mary Cassatt had also used the motherly theme in her works. Her images were of mother's universal love for her children, beyond that of religious art. In terms of technique, it continued or borrowed from Impression. In <Mother and Child>, the picutre exudes a feeling of warmth and a brightness that reflects a mother's care for her children. Both artist's works have left a deep impression on me. And have influenced my creative effort in my graduation project. Using simple lines as a language of expression, and through the employment of modeling the forms, I had hoped to portray the liveliness as well as the emotional connection between parent and child in a manner that is reflective of our times and personal to me.From concept to composition, right through to the language of expression, the entire process has been an experiment in the realization of my artistic intention. At each step along the way, I've tried and explored the most suitable manner to express myself, and I hope that I've achieved the desired results I seek.
