In the Northern Song Dynasty , northwest region included Yongxinjun, Fuyan, Qinfeng, Jingyuan, Huanqing and Xihe being after Xining northwestern expedition of Emperor Shenzong, which were generally called"the Five Northwestern State", a multi-ethnic settlement, military strategic region and important material base. The northwestern territory was administrated in mid and late period of Northern Song Dynasty, mostly because of its important strategic position. The administrating of the northwestern territory in Northern Song Dynasty achieved some positive results such as consolidating border, stabilizing frontier defense, expanding boundary, improving the living standard of local people, at the same time, also brought about many negative influence. On the relationship between war in expedition and population, killing ethnic minorities, death of soldiers on battlefield, casualties of transit workers, all resulted in depopulation and made against economic development. On the relationship between war in expedition and the people's livelihood, expedition made public tax, military service, corvee burden heavier life of people more poor. On the relationship between war and finance, the great military spending, guerdon to officials and soldiers, pay for merchantman who carried goods for army, all of these aggravated the financial crisis. On the relationship between war in expedition and ecological environment, cultivating wilderness in northwest regions, especially in some unfavorable ground, destroyed the local natural environment. In addition, the destruction of forest and meadow also influence the ecological environment of northwest regions. In late Northern Song Dynasty, the bad ecological environment had relation to the destruction. In Mid and Late period of Northern Song Dynasty, expedition on the northwestern frontier resulted depopulation, destitute livelihood, increasing financial crisis and environmental damage what were parts of administrating northwestern territory and reflected another important side of expedition.
