| The images of intellectuals, mothers, farmers, new women, students studying abroad and so on have been research focus in a certain period among the image study of Chinese modern fiction. And some of them have formed an abundant image series. But there have been little research about the images of children which appear in Chinese modern fiction again and again. A new phenomenon in Chinese modern literature is the appearance of numerous children along with the discovery of human in literary works. With the view of child, Luxun finishes his first work"Nostalgia", and his first novel"Diary of a Madman"is born with the heavy cry of"save the child"in May,1918. Beginning from this, with the establishment of modern view on children, a lot of meaningful child images, which represent profound aesthetic ideals and artistic pursuit of the author, have been created in Chinese modern fiction. It is a new perspective of the study of Chinese modern fiction to analyze these images of children deeply.As the initial state of human life, children are the self-continuation of lives. Addition to smart bodies which exist naturally, they have their own personality, intrinsic value and life experience which are given by the society during their course of growth. Therefore, concerning about the fate of children is also the concerning about the fate of human. This paper takes images of children as the researching object; it studies the images of children in Chinese modern fiction from time and geography aspects, and the images of children are classified and arranged systematically according to the time changing and similar feature, in this way, the paper attempts to fully reflect the general style and spirit features of Chinese modern fiction. Of course, this is only artificial classification. All kinds of child images coexist in different times, but it can not form a concept of a whole time, every kind of child images in every period have their own characteristics, they constitute the abundant series of the child images of Chinese modern fiction. |
