Academic emotions are various emotional experiences that directly linked to academic learning, classroom instruction, and academic achievement. In recent years, there are plenty of relevant intivations about academic emotions, but the research on academic emotions of the top and bottom juniors is little. This investigation used questionnaire method is to assay the characteristics of different dimensions on academic emotions of the top and bottom juniors, and also to provide suggestions for the education and teaching. It was investigated among 456 students in four middle schools in Nanjing and Yangzhou.By comprehensive investigation and data analysis, the study draws following conclusions:1. The top juniors have more positive academic emotions and less negative academic emotions than the bottom ones.2. There is no significant effect of gender between the top and bottom juniors in the positive academic emotions, but significant differences exist in the negative academic emotions. Girls are less calmness and more anxious, shamed, depressed emotions than boys.3. Girls have more satisfactary emotions than boys in group of top students, but it has an opposite result in group of bottom ones. There is no significant effect of gender in the top students about hopeless emotion, but in the bottom ones, boys'scores are higher than girls.4. Significant differences between the top and bottom juniors were reported in different grades.On the whole, students in grade one have more satisfaction and relaxed emotions, have less tired, depressed moods than students in grade two and three. In the upset-fatigued moods, the scores of the grade three are higher significantly than the grade one and grade two, in delighted mood, it's just lower significantly than the grade two.With grade increasing, the relaxed emotion is declining in the top students, but in the buttom ones, it is dropping first, then, slightly increasing. In weary mood, the scores of the top students in grade one and two are lowly, but promoting evidently in grade three, the bottom ones are inceased first, changes in grade two and grade three are seldom.
