The Study Of Taiwan Foreign Students Novels' Theme

Whether from the quantity or the quality, Taiwan foreign students novels have the most creative achievements among the Chinese students literature. They enriched the scope of the Chinese literature and expand the performance of Chinese people's cognitive field. Thereby, carrying on the necessary research to them has literary and sociological dual value and meaning. The paper based on the novels which were about general Chinese-American life and destiny, they were written by Taiwan foreign students representative writers such as YuLihua, BaiXianYong, ZhangXiGuo, CongSu, NieHuaLing, OuYangZi in the 1960s and 1970s. The paper try to analyze these novels from the perspective of theme.Through deep analysis of their themes, we can see the contemporary writers'understanding of Chinese-Americans situation in America. This paper firstly summarized two themes" the strangers'existence dilemma" and "the people that live in edge's roots of complex", and the themes were explained from the following parts:the hardship in materials,the spiritual loneliness and loss, the emotional helplessness and deeply worried that were suffered by the students who studied in America; the pain of rootless and the misery of looking for the roots which were resulted from being away from home and relatives; Meanwhile, this paper not only attention the ideological content level summary and analysis of the theme, it also dedicated to the works from the angle of literary forms to understand the theme, more specifically, By explaining the typical images such as the "death" image which appeared frequently in ZhangXiGuo, BaiXianYong and CongSu'works, and "chewing-gum", "cigarette", "pipe" and so on which had the similar functions that existed in YuLiHua's novels, we can understand how the abstract themes were expressed by the concrete images. The goal is to grasp the literary phenomenon and essence, through studying the themes of Taiwan students novel from both content and forms, we can understand the novels more thoroughly, three-dimensionally,so that we can see the social life capacity, the social significance, the artistic value that the woks contained, Then we can learn the experience and lessons from literature to social aspects, open a new window of looking at the world for people and search for new growing point for the development and prosperity of literature in our country.
