This Subject mainly discussed the thoughts and practices of Japanese maritime strategy in Meiji Period (1868-1912) on the basis of others. The thoughts′history conditions are, the ideologies on maritime defense and the calls of resisting foreign aggression in late Tokugawa Period as well as the establishment of Meiji government. And the third aspect is important precondition and guarantee.The formation proces of Meiji Period marine strategy is divided into two phases. Theories of navy revitalization, separation of navy and land force and so on, came forth in early Meiji Period and affecting the strategy to after. After 1980s, the thoughts of maritime strategy completed increasingly under the policy of"Strong Army and Rich Nation". Until the beginning of the 20th century, with the theories of Navy revitalization, line of benefit and sea power were put forward, the maritime strategy in Meiji Period established gradually. Then became more perfect in the practice of Sino-Japanese War, Russo-Japanese War and others.The Japan′s maritime strategy in Meiji period produced in specific historical period,so it linked closely with overseas expansion from rise, and turned into the tools for Japan overseas expansion. This expansivity showed up that keen mainland complex, and vivid consciousness of maritime state, and so forth. The Japan's maritime strategy was unfavorable to the stability and development in East Asia, and accelerated Japanese militarism. The maritime strategy once made Japan became a powerful maritime state and supremacy in Eastern Asia. However, the strategy itself contained deep crisis. Take history as a mirror, we should be on guard against the expansion composition of Japan′s maritime strategy in new century.
