Mind Wandering is a endogenous process of mental activity in awake state that can only be aware of,but out of our control by consciousness. The frequency of mind wandering as a characteristic is stable, and the content will be a certain tendency. This study designed frequesncy questionnaires in three angles which were concept struction, task status and content characterization, aimed at exploring the strcture model of mind wandering frequency and developing effective research tools, to systematically assess the frequency of mind wandering. From interviews of college students, we found individual perfomance on the content of mindwandering were significantly different, they had different criteria of the frequency terms, and the experience of mindwandering were recalled with the backgound of certain tasks. According to interview results, and the content of the existing questionnaires, the measurement of mindwandering frequency is divided into three sections, namely the mindwandering frequency questionnaire, mindwandering under different tasks questionnaire and the different content of mindwandering questionnaire. The results from the investigation as follows:(1) Sub-questionnaire I is named mind wandering Frequency questionnaire. Basing on the concept of mind wandering, we found the rise and processes of mindwandering were measured separately by spontaneous thought factor and attention out of control factor. Comparing to the existing Research, the two factor model of this questionnaire directed at the core of the concept. This questionnaire can be considered as an useful tool for totally assessment of the frequency of mind wandering. As a supplementary of the frequency investigation, the overall assessment factor is an inaccurate self-assessment. The mind wandering Frequency questionnaire has high homogeneity reliability, criterion validity and construct validity were satisfactory, test-retest results showed that the questionnaire is stable.(2) Sub-questionnaireâ…¡is called Mind wandering in different tasks, this questionnaire investigated the frequency characteristics of mind wandering with or without tasks. The analysis found that the individual will determine the level of mind wandering frequency. The nature of the task in this research can be divided into no task status, trend tasks, avoiding tasks and background tasks four cases. Individual involvement in trend tasks has a higher degree, while involement in the other three task states is low, so the former has a certain independence. Based on this, "3+1" model was designed with four types of tasks according to the degree of involvement, tend task factor as an independent factor was uesd to assess the mind wandering frequency in tasks with high involvement. The homogeneity reliability of trend task is not high(Alpha coefficient is 0.7), but the others meet the requirements of criterion. The validity and construct validity show that the investigation effectively, and test-retest reliability reflects the stability of questionnaire.(3) Sub-questionnaireâ…¢is named the different content of mindwandering questionnaire, this questionnaire assesses the frequency of mind wandering in two content representation which are situational representation and semantic representation. Study found that the content representation of the mind wandering can be subdivided into situational representation, voice representation and non-voice semantic represention, the latter two, respectively, in accordance with auditory and visual representation representation, this constitutes a three-factor questionnaire Model. The homogeneity reliability of the different content of mindwandering questionnaire meet the requirements, except the non-voice semantic representation has low reliability (Alpha 0.65), criterion validity and construct validity show that the survey had an effective, test-retest reliability reflects the stability of questionnaire. (4) The measurement of mindwandering frequency by qestionnaire have an strict requirements on the use of the frequency terms. Because of the diffrerent definition of the frequency terms and mindwandering experience forgotten over time, within a short time interval units of frequency estimation and frequency probability estimation are more accurate than the frequency estimate within a the long time interval. According to the investagation, each college students experience more than 30 times of mindwandering everyday. The frequency of mindwandering under trend task is lowest, and the frequency of situational representation is slightly higher than the semantic representation in mindwandering. Mindwandering frequency has a significant difference in gender, girls experience more mindwandering in several factors. Girls experience more mindwandering than boys under no task status and background tasks, this shows that in the absence of goal cases, girls are more likely to let go of conscious control.Mindwandering frequency differences in age show significant differences before and after 20 years, this may be related to the mentality and learning environment in different grades...
