The Syntactic Characteristic And The Semantic Function Of "Zhe Hui" (这回)

The demonstrative and quantitive phrase"zhe hui"(这回), which is comprised of"zhe"(这),a demonstrative pronoun, and"hui"(回), a quantifier, is frequently used in modern Chinese and is commonly seen both in oral and written Chinese."zhe hui"(这回) can be identified as"zhe hui a"(这回a),"zhe hui b"(这回b) and"zhe hui c"(这回c) regarding the way"hui"is used as a quantifier. In this issue, we focus on the"zhe hui b"when"hui"calculates subjects and"zhe hui c"when"hui"motions respectively.Based on the language materials of modern Chinese, the syntax feature of"zhe hui"is achieved in the way of data statistics. The semantic structure and semantic function of"zhe hui"is analyzed in specific scenario based on the syntax feature, while the cause of some of its function is concluded with the cognitive linguistics theory.Chapter I, introduction on research achievement in demonstrative and quantitive phrase.Chapter II, analysis on"zhe hui shi", the typical use of"zhe hui b", through which a conclusion is obtained that the syntax feature of"zhe hui b"is subject and object. It's obvious that"zhe hui b"is of a noun, which means it has referring function.Chapter III, in accordance with different uses of"zhe hui c", including"zhe hui c1"(这回c1) is used as an attribute,"zhe hui c2"(这回c2) functions as an adverb,"zhe hui c3"(这回c3) is considered as a subject,"zhe hui c4"(这回c4) functions as an initial adverb and"zhe hui c5"(这回c5) plays a role separately, the meaning functions involve relative function, referring function, referring and replacing function. It also means some logical relationship.Chapter IV , the comprehensive analysis on the series comprised of"zhe hui b"and different parts of"zhe hui c"get to the conclusion that"zhe hui"appears in different formats on the level of synchronic linguistics, and changes in semantic role. The change is driven by the semantic changes of"hui". Meanwhile, we find that"zhe hui", has connective and different relationship with"zhe"as well as"hui"in syntax feature and semantic role. They tend to show asymmetrical relationship in semantic structure and functional structure.
