An Successful Attemption On The Modernization Of Chinese Novels

The previous edition of"Odd Injustice of Nine Lives"is"Caution to the Rich"written by AnHe during JiaQing years in Late Qing dynasty, which includes forty sections. Later, it is adapted and renamed as"Odd Injustice of Nine Lives"by WuJianren .The novel includes thirty six sections whose content is based on a real murder case, which happened in Guangdong in eighteen century. The author depicts the hatred and murder case between Liang and Lin families."Odd Injustice of Nine Lives"is highly praised by HuShi, LuXun and AYing and gets high reputation in literature field. Even though it's appreciated for its writing skills, we can hardly read some discussions in those monographs. As for"Caution to the Rich", its research is relatively rare in academic domain and it's hardly to be recorded in the literature history. Researchers who focus on some detective novels write some details. So in this research, the author compares"Odd Injustice of Nine Lives"with"Caution to the Rich", illustrates the inheritance and innovation relation between two novels.This paper can be divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a preface illustrating points of view, research methods and purpose of the present study. The second chapter can be subcategorized into three sections, the author intends to adopt analysis methods, elucidating the author's life, clarifying the edition and raw material of the fiction, and exploring the narrative characteristic of the fiction. The third chapter discusses on WuJianren's adaptation of"Odd Injustice of Nine Lives", which can be subcategorized into three sections, the author try to clarify WuJianren's life and summarize his novels in the first section. The author discusses the motivation of Wu's adaptation of"Caution to the Rich"from four aspects in the second section. Furthermore, illustrating the inheritance and innovation of"Odd Injustice of Nine Lives"is based on"Caution to the Rich"in the third section. The forth chapter summarizes the spread and influence of"Odd Injustice of Nine Lives"as well as the contribution of the modernization of Chinese detective novels. The fifth chapter makes the conclusion.
